Features & Applications

Y-FCT is a flexible current transducer based on the Rogowski principle, particularly suitable for measurement in combination with portable devices. These coils are available in different sizes and can be used in applications where traditional transducers do not fit due to size or weight constraints.

The coil is provided with a shield against external magnetic fields, granting stable measurement from low currents to hundreds of kA. It must be connected to an electronic integrator for 90° phase shift compensation and frequency equalization.

What is a Rogowski coil?

Rogowski coils are air-cored coils placed around a conductor. The magnetic field produced by the current induces a voltage in the coil proportional to the rate of change of current. This voltage is integrated to produce an output proportional to the current. They offer advantages like high linearity, wide dynamic range, and are lightweight enough to be suspended on the conductor.

⚠️ CAUTION! RISK OF DANGER

Safe operation can only be guaranteed if the transducer is used for its intended purpose. Installation must be performed by qualified personnel. Ensure all measures are taken to protect against electrical shock.

⚠️ WARNING!

Do not stress the coil by applying mechanical force (twisting, puncturing, excessive pressure, tight bending), as this will dramatically degrade the device's accuracy.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the main advantage of a flexible Rogowski coil over a standard CT?
A: It is non-intrusive, lightweight, and flexible, allowing it to be installed around large or irregular conductors in tight spaces without disconnecting the circuit.
Q: Can the Y-FCT measure DC current?
A: No, Rogowski coils are designed for AC current measurement. However, they can measure the AC component accurately even in the presence of a large DC component.
Q: Is the Y-FCT suitable for outdoor use?
A: Yes, it features an IP68 rating, making it waterproof and suitable for harsh environments.
Q: Does the coil require an external power source?
A: The coil itself is passive, but it requires an electronic integrator to process the signal. Some modern meters can interface with it directly.
Q: What is the maximum current the Y-FCT can measure?
A: It can measure currents up to 100kA with high linearity.
Q: Does the position of the conductor inside the coil affect accuracy?
A: The Y-FCT is designed for high uniformity, but for best results, the conductor should be placed centrally. The position error is typically within ±1%.
